Introduction

You’re likely familiar with a cognitive bias as being a repeating misstep in thinking. You’re also likely familiar with how a cognitive bias leads to a pattern of misperception. What is a challenge, however, is how we help our patients and clients with their illogical interpretations, their irrationality, and their perceptual distortions. In this seminar we’re going to explore all of this, and we’re going to look at implicit bias and ethics in clinical care.

What you’ll learn

At the end of this online seminar, you will have:

• Learned about anchoring as a cognitive bias, when it has a negative impact for your patients and clients, and how to help it have a positive impact on their lives.
• Learned about apophenia, how to use it to understand the addictive patterns of some of your patients and clients, and how to help them decrease such patterns.
• Gained an understanding of attribution bias, its relationship with confirmation bias, and the relationship between these biases and ethics in clinical care.
