Depression is that mental state characterized by low mood and anhedonia. It affects individuals’ thoughts, behavior, and motivation. It is expressed through individuals’ feelings and a substandard sense of well-being. It is by far the number one underlying cause of suicide. Depression may be due to a variety of reasons, and understanding it adequately will determine how well and successfully we treat it.
However, we often fall into the trap of the illusion of familiarity. Simply put, the prior experience of a stimulus can produce a feeling of familiarity through an unconscious inference. Do not let the illusion of familiarity fool you. Come master depression, and enhance the difference you are currently making with your clients.
