Self-Expression

An innate gift inside all of us is our ability to self-express. It is our most quintessential talent, one that never leaves regardless of what may have transpired over the years and decades of our life.

As a child, self-expressing was rather easy, spontaneous, straightforward, and natural. We had no fear. We were courageous, brave, and fierce. We also took risks, we took initiative, we showed no hesitation whatsoever and just went with the flow. In fact, we were like water; the current that moved past or through all obstacles, just to continue the journey.

Then very soon after, something happened. We started to develop a superego, one that has been shaped by our parents, our older siblings, our teachers, and other authoritative figures. And, then over time, our peers, strangers of any age, and even our own thoughts produced a mixture of limiting beliefs. And, we then became inhibited.

Ever since, self-expression started to be defined in our mind as something dangerous, something that belongs only to the brave ones, the lucky ones, the fortunate ones, while forgetting all along that we were once just that-brave, lucky, and fortunate.

Ever since self-expression started to be viewed differently. We started to view it as something reserved for the creative ones, the geniuses, the famous ones, or the celebrities.

But, as we started to look back, and begin to understand ourselves, understand who we really are, it started to dawn on us. As we started to look further, deeper, and closer inside, we realized that our position that “those things” were reserved for “others,” was nothing more than a belief. A belief that we bought into.  A belief that we had over and over, and subsequently confirmed that we have nothing to offer, that no one was really going to listen, that if we dared to try, we would just be making a joke of ourselves.

But, what if we started to look further? What if we realized that we no longer needed to buy into those beliefs? What if we realized that these were only beliefs, which were acquired, nurtured and practiced over time, in our head, all along, without even realizing it? But then, what if we replaced them with new beliefs that serve us, that remind us of the contribution, the joy, and the fulfillment in being self-expressed?

Welcome to being self-expressed. As you embark on this journey, let’s look into the following inquiry:

If there were no fear, no inhibition, and no obstacle:

  1. What would you share with the world?

  2. How would you share it with the world?

  3. Why would you share it with the world?

May you be fully expressed and make a major impact in the world in the process.

With love and admiration,
Karen and Mardoche
